Make Your Personal Information Available By Request

These days, managing your personal information online is just as important as keeping it organized at home. From your phone number to your address, people no longer look to the phone book for answers on how to reach you – but they do look online. That’s where we come in. At Whitepages, we help you tidy up your personal details so that the people you care about can get in touch with you. It might be something simple like getting your college friend’s wedding invitation in the mail, or something big like reconnecting with someone from your past. Either way, there are a lot of good reasons to keep your information listed online.

We know that some of you might be hesitant to put personal info up for all to see, and that’s okay. What’s important to us is that you have control over the personal details that make up your digital identity (email, social media, phone numbers and addresses). By creating an account with us, you can manage your privacy settings to make your information public, private or available by request.

Making information available by request is something new for us, but we think it’s brilliant. Here’s how it works: If you choose to make your phone number or address available upon request, then we hide that information on your Whitepages listing, but show people this:
Contact Me

When another verified Whitepages user clicks “Contact Me,” we send an email to the address that you specified, explaining who is trying to get in touch and what piece of personal info they’re asking for. They never see your email address or any other piece of your personal info. From there, you can choose to give them your information or do nothing at all—the choice is yours.

Want to give it a try? Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Sign up for your Whitepages account. It’s free and it’s easy to do. We’ll ask you to verify your email and phone number, but after that, you’ll be ready to update your information.
  2. Choose an email account to receive request messages. Once you’re in your account, go to your Directory page. At the bottom, you’ll see a section where you can choose which email address you want your request notifications to go to. That page looks like this:

Request My Info

  1. Make your phone number and/or address available by request. Your phone number(s) and address(es) all have a green “edit” button next to them. When you click that you have the option to make those pieces of information available by request. Here’s the screen-pop you’ll see:

Edit phone number

That’s all it takes! By having your information available by request, you can still be contacted by the people you care about, but maintain the added level of privacy that you’re looking for. Give it a try and see how Whitepages helps keep you connected.
