WhitePages has the U.S. covered

Hello Blog readers! My name is Eric Lesh and I work on the Data Team here at WhitePages. I’ve been with the company 4.5 years and this is my first blog post.

Many sites out there claim to do people search, and more are popping up all the time. But I think most people would be surprised to find out that these sites typically cover less than 50% of adults in the U.S.

WhitePages, on the other hand, excels when it comes to coverage. We have more than 80% coverage (and growing) of U.S. adults that’s 4 out of 5, over 180 million people!

So how do we do it? The Data Team works hard to keep growing our database and improving the quality of listings. Last year we added twice the people of other competing people search sites a huge win for us. Try searching on another people search site and then search on WhitePages.com. I am willing to bet WhitePages.com will give you a result when the other site won’t.

Not only did we add a ton of traditional residential listings, we also added scores of “At Work” listings. “At Work” listings are like residential listings, but instead of household contact info they list a person with their place of employment, job title, address and phone number. This new data is a great complement to our regular listings because many people prefer to be contacted at work. This is just one example of how WhitePages.com helps you find and connect with who you are looking for, quickly and easily.

Another example is the addition of household information to our search results. This makes it much easier to figure out if the person you’ve found is really the person you seek. There are a quite a few “John Smiths” in the U.S. after all, but a glance at household-member names can help you quickly narrow it down.

WhitePages customers can count on us to have the best coverage of any free people search web site. Sure that’s a bold statement, but we have the competitive analysis to prove it. Our data is better, we have more of it, and that’s why we’re able to make it ‘fantastically simple’ for everyone to find and connect with one another.

If you can’t find the person you are looking for on WhitePages.com, there’s no point in looking on other free sites don’t waste your time! Your best bet is to use our paid public search partner (these links are already on our result and no-result pages) to get the info you need.

Best of luck in your searches! Keep giving us feedback on your results via the “Help us improve. Is this listing accurate?” form on each listing’s detail page.

Also, please let us know what you think by posting a comment. Thanks!

You all are schmucks. With identity theft, who the hell needs to know my age, how to get to my house, my phone number, address, etc.

Why do all these site advertise “free” information and then when you want to look up an address and phone number they want to charge you or want you to subscribe to their services for a fee. Somehow, “free” doesn’t equate to being charged for information that normally is public information.

I don’t understand why you would provide my address when I do NOT list my address in the hard copy white pages??? I do not want just anyone to know where I live, but I do want my phone number listed. How do you justify airing private information without authorization? I mean ethically… it must be legal, but it isn’t ethical.

    Regards,

    To Diane and Sharon,

We take privacy very seriously and appreciate you taking the time to share your comments to us.

We obtain our information from a wide variety of publicly available and third party data suppliers. We do not get our information directly or exclusively from phone books, so the information available on WhitePages.com won’t necessarily be what’s printed in your local phone directory. We understand and respect that some people may not want to be found on WhitePages.com or may not want specific pieces of information, such as an address, map or age range, displayed on WhitePages.com. As part of our privacy principles, we allow people to remove their listing information quickly and easily from our website. For instructions, visit our Help pages - http://www.whitepages.com/help/faq#remove_listing.

    To Linda,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us.

While using WhitePages.com is absolutely free, we offer links via advertisements for paid public records searches and other paid services.

As stated by my colleague, Eric, we provide information for over 80% of the U.S. adult population for free! If your search returns “no results” we display advertisements for paid public records searches because if you don’t find the information on WhitePages.com, you won’t likely find it anywhere else for free!

Thank you again for posting your comment and good luck in your searches!

    Best regards,

I want to remove my listing but cannot find LISTING DETAILS on the page. I like to think I am a smart person, but it seems crafty that first you have information, then a seemingly intelligent person cannot remove it.
