Connectory

Over the past six months, I have had the opportunity to spend some quality time with a number of ad agencies and marketers from Seattle to New York and numerous places in between.  At WhitePages we are very proud of how we are changing the way people connect with confidence.  And we are equally proud of the new advertising opportunities that are emerging (and succeeding for advertisers) through our long-term company vision.  Read on for some thoughts I wanted to share coming from these meetings…

What does the white page phonebook  and www.whitepages.com have in common?

As a mom, I have to say: I’m disappointed. But as a product owner for the most popular people search site on the Internet, I’m at least glad that we’re helping people to connect with confidence.

Beyond our expected growth rate, we saw a relatively significant bump in both unique visitors (+7%) and people searches (+10%) in the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Apparently, people don’t know their mother’s addresses and phone numbers. Nice.

We get a bunch of emails from WhitePages members telling us about their experiences with our services.  Some are heartwarming, some inpirational and some just plain funny.  Britt’s story is pretty cool, so we thought we’d share with our blog readers.

And if you have as story that you’d like to share in a guest blog, just shoot me an email and we’ll see what we can do. .

Hi. I’m Britt Stromberg, a WhitePages member.  I’m the owner of Wordslinger, Inc. and I use WhitePages all the time to look up client contact info, local businesses and people (oh hello college boyfriend…nice to know that you live in Ballard). The coolest thing WhitePages did for me recently was to make it easy to get the phone numbers of my neighbors for a block-watch list. I dreaded the thought of going door-to-door for that thankless task.

Note: The following post was written by Amanda Bishop, one of WhitePages’ Product Managers.

Something crazy happened to me this morning. It began as usual – I was walking to work along Western Ave. in Belltown (Seattle) while ducking under my umbrella on a rainy winter morning. As I approached the Battery Street Tunnel, I saw a little black purse sitting on the sidewalk. This particular spot of my commute is commonly littered with different items, so I almost ignored it. But then I remembered losing my purse last fall and all the trouble that came with it. So I picked it up, expecting to find nothing inside – but after a quick look, I found a Prada bag, some $20 bills, and a checkbook among other things! Working at WhitePages, my first thought was to pull up our iPhone application and see if I could find a cell phone number or email address for this poor girl. Surely she had just dropped it and maybe I could return it to her now and save her hours of worry!
