1.& 2. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper

There are 530,993 people in the US named Peter; there are 579,978 people named Dennis; both are in the Top 100 most popular names in the U.S.

According to, Peter Fonda got the idea for the landmark 1969 counterculture film classic “Easy Rider” after seeing a picture of himself and actor Bruce Dern on their motorcycles. He got Dennis Hopper (who was planning to get out of the acting business and become a teacher at the time) involved when he promised him he could direct the film.

3.Steve McQueen

South Dakota has the highest percentage of people named Steve (out of 367,566 in the U.S.), coincidentally the home of The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, an annual event that was founded on August 14, 1938, by the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club. This United Nations Goodwill Ambassador-mother-actor-and more has several bikes, and 42,268 Americans share her name –most popular in 2005–the same year the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith was released.

5. Marlon Brando

“During (my) years in New York, I often got on my motorcycle in the middle of the night and went for a ride–anyplace.” Brando’s fame brought public awareness of this name, with 21,606 people named Marlon, the most in 1972, the same year “The Godfather” film was released, in which Brando played the iconic Don Corleone.

    I supposed after 90,000 miles on my Suzuki DL 1000 doesn’t make me a biker then nothing else can… Plus I put 40,000 on my first bike. Have had two significant wrecks and survived.
