As I approach five years with WhitePages.com, I’ve started thinking about what got us to where we are today, and will help guide us through the years to come.
Five years ago we were a small, but productive team of 15 sitting in an office in Pioneer Square on the south end of downtown Seattle. This was early 2002 and we were fortunate enough to be profitable and not subject to the winds of the Internet bubble and all the troubles that many an Internet company faced back in those days.
Fast forward five years and to no one’s surprise, at least to the “Pioneer Square 15”, we have grown our monthly traffic by over 13X (that’s over 1,300%!) We employ approximately 140 people, are still in Seattle, and still focused on the same thing. Our secret to getting here? The right combination of capability and opportunity. Between our focus, brand names, strong people and solid execution, we have had five years of strong top and bottom line growth, with no end in sight! How you ask? By providing our users what they want – the best service for finding some combination of a name, address and phone number for a person or a business.
I can’t wait to see what the next five years will bring especially as different forms of communication, like email, cell phones, and social networks, become more pervasive.
